What kind of careers can I pursue with a Marketing Degree?

I am currently enrolled in my 1st marketing course and am curious about potential careers in this field

*Associate’s Degrees in Marketing
The marketing associate’s degree can be a step towards a bachelor degree or used to qualify for an entry-level job such as retail sales and customer service, wholesale distribution, advertising, buying, and promotions. You’ll be required to have a high school diploma or GED and a strong aptitude for analysis and mathematics. It is suggested that students bring some work experience with them since this enhances case study comprehension.

*Bachelor’s Degrees in Marketing
A bachelor’s degree in marketing–often a business administration degree with a marketing focus–takes longer than an associate’s degree, but rewards you with better job opportunities. Your higher-level career choices upon graduation can include management-level jobs in marketing, sales, retail merchandising, promotions, and marketing research.

Remember, most large firms will expect to see at least a bachelor’s degree for professional positions and an MBA is preferred for management careers. In today’s hyper-competitive economy, many marketing professionals are earning their marketing degrees online, in order to advance without giving up their jobs.

I am 15 and need money relatively quick, is there a way to earn it legally?

I live just outside of Jackson, Mississippi and my parents split up so we are strapped for money. I am a white male and I would like to know is there a way to earn money semi-quickly in order to pay for my gas/clothes/video games. I have my permit and i only drive with parents but i am fairly active and i was told i needed to pay for the gas i use. Don’t say babysitting because my sister (13) snatches all of the available jobs in and around the area. Shoveling snow is also out, as is paper routes, working in a family business or anything to do with neighborhoods. (such as lemonade stands, mowing grass, so on and so forth) P.S. I am a boy scout and a model citizen/student

There are kids on the Web who are making money for themselves, with the help of the parents (parents have to open the accounts the kids need — hosting, advertising, etc)

Hannah Altman, a 10 year old started a website selling pencil toppers, and making good money Ashley Qualls is another example who rode the coattails of MySpace and earned for herself a huge pile of cash

Here are the main ways you can earn money from the Internet:

1. Sell products on the Web – You can either sell: (a) through your own storefront through your own website or applications such as Yahoo Stores; or (b) sell through online auctions like eBay

2. Information Delivery. Others such as create content and monetize their content in a number of ways:

a. Advertising – there are several ways you can earn money from advertising:

1. Join an advertising network. Advertising networks are organizations that aggregate Web sites that offer advertising space, and sell banner ads (and other advertising options) across them. Traffic requirement is often a minimum of 5,000 monthly impressions, although many do not accept sites hosted by free page services.

Burst Media

2. Participate in contextual advertising networks. Contextual advertising are text ads delivered based on the content of the web page using an automated system.

Google Adsense

3. Sell advertising for your site directly. This is admittedly a more difficult route for a small business site wanting to earn advertising revenues. But hey, as they say: “no pain, no gain!”

b. Affiliate Programs – you sell other people’s products that your audience may be interested in; and you get a certain commission after the desired action was done (whether a sale, a lead, subscription to email newsletter, or however this is defined)

Paid online content. or Supporters forum all require paid subscription before accessing the information

How to access Facebook at school?

I’m on lunch break and extremely bored, and was wondering how to get on Facebook/imvu/YouTube. Please help, thanks.

If your school permitted those websites, they would be in violation of CIPA and COPPA

The Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) is a federal law enacted by Congress to address concerns about access to offensive content over the Internet on school and library computers.

If you operate a commercial Web site or an online service directed to children under 13 that collects personal information from children or if you operate a general audience Web site and have actual knowledge that you are collecting personal information from children, you must comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.

To determine whether a Web site is directed to children, the FTC considers several factors, including the subject matter; visual or audio content; the age of models on the site; language; whether advertising on the Web site is directed to children; information regarding the age of the actual or intended audience; and whether a site uses animated characters or other child-oriented features.

To determine whether an entity is an “operator” with respect to information collected at a site, the FTC will consider who owns and controls the information; who pays for the collection and maintenance of the information; what the pre-existing contractual relationships are in connection with the information; and what role the Web site plays in collecting or maintaining the information.

Because those websites permit any and all entities of any given community, the school cannot be liable to allow any sort of communication to possible sex offenders and pedophiles. Thus… These social networks are blocked from your educational administration to comply with CIPA and COPPA Acts as required by Federal regulations.

You can ask nicely but you will not receive a budge from this. Typically any means of using a proxy to bypass will either get you suspended or expelled if you’re caught.

PC use in school is intended only for the purpose of information mining for school projects and things of that nature. Keep the social sites for home…

Best Regards,

How can I advertise myself as a private English teacher for high school students?

I’m a private English teacher, so I don’t teach at schools. My problem is how to make students know about me and my skills as an English teacher. I’m sure I am better than most of them who teach at schools but they have much better opportunity than I do for private classes as students see them all the time at school. I want to know how I can advertise myself as an English teacher for high school student.

When I was a new teacher I got most tutoring jobs from the school I student taught at. The counselor at that school asked me for my information. Anytime that had a student who was struggling and the parent asked about tutors, they would give them my name and number.
I suggest getting some business cards and taking them to the counseling office of local schools. Many teacher do not do private tutoring because of other obligations. This would be a great way for you to get your name out.
A school newspaper would be a great way to run an ad, except most often the parents do not read the school newspapers. The kids never take it home.
A local newspaper may be a better way. I live in Ohio and at they have a spot where you can advertise online in the name of our local paper. I look there before I pour through the actual newspaper.
Be sure to spread it by word of mouth, too. Keep your cards on you. When you run into someone and want to call you… give them your card. I got a handful of jobs from that because people pass it on to others who they know need help.

Do social networking websites make us socially inept?

Do social networking sites make us socially inept? If possible, please provide reasons for both supporting and opposing?

The social networking websites offer community to individuals with shared interest. That’s a positive social support.

Socially inept? That’s up for debate. Arguments go both ways.

Research is being done to investigate the impact of social sites as related to identity, privacy, social capital, youth culture and education. That’s positive for the researchers (jobs provided) and others in telecommunications and media.

Since we are encouraged to build profiles, and list friends, and contacts, and join groups, marketers build profiles on our information to advertise products and services..

Mobile phone users can now create their own profiles, make friends, enter chat rooms, share photos and videos and blogs with their phone, as if sitting at a computer, like Facebook Mobile and for professionals

Newer trends are “real time” features like Twitter and Facebook Live Feed, that broadcast like live television; and Clixtr for photo sharing in real time.

Basic uses are:

Create brand awareness
Online reputation tool
Learn new technologies and competition
Intercept potential prospects
Sharing information and knowledge
Communication between students and teachers
Grassroots organizing by actvists (low cost)
Library services
College students networking for internships and job opportunities
Social network hosting service; SNSes

Sexual predators
Data theft
Govt and Corps taking personal info, which might be detrimental
Quechup harvested email addresses from users e-mail accounts for spamming
Republishing information without consent could be invasion of privacy
Suspicion by networks: Facebook banned Elmo Keep from Australia because of his name, which is his genuine name

Child pornography; May 2010 a child porn site as a social networking site was dismantled by law enforcement with hundreds of members, “the largest crimes against children case brought anywhere by anyone.”
Bullying: 2006 a fake Myspace profile led to suicide of Megan Meier
Libel and breach of privacy: 2008 fake page on Facebook claiming a youth was homosexual and dishonest

online marketing crash course

Do you believe in the Efficient Market Hypothesis?

Why or why not?

No. I think that there are many times that we see behavior in the market that is not efficient. The theory (efficent-markets) is that the market will fully, accurately and instantaneously incorporate all info into prices. The supposition is that all participants are rational, mathematically optimal and make decisions in their own interest. However, there are times that we see erratic shifts in the market that are not efficient. Like the depression, the market crash of ’89 and the dot com crash. The other theory that has been in opposition to this is behavioral economics which supposes that not all market behavior is rational but rather goverened by emotion and psychology. You could point to either and say that there were periods in time that would support either theory. However, there is no unifying the two extremes in either of these hypotheses. (This somewhat harkens back to the quantum theory vs theory of relativity debate…however yet unsolved.) Currently, there is a new hypothesis that would unify these two and actually makes quite a bit of sense. It is based on Darwinian principals and would explain both the behavioral and efficient behaviors we see in the market. It is called the adaptive-markets hypothesis. The theory goes that people will start to develop rules that will work well in a certian market and when the market is stable for a period of time, the behaviors will seem rational because these same rules are being applied over and over to problems, strategy and pricing. However, if there is a sudden shift in the market for some reason, people, the creatures of habit that they are, will continue to use the same rules they used in the previous market, but this time they will not work…and thus we will see the dramiatic shifts that we saw during the crashes, manias, etc. Of course then this prompts the more agile competitors to switch strategy and ADAPT to the new market. Lots of the reactions to both market types may tie in with some basic human psychology and some may have to do with the strategy and the adaptiveness of the players in the market. Thus, I do not believe that the efficient-markets hypothesis fully explains all of the behaviors that we see over time.

If you want more information, MIT and Harvard have been writing some articles on this very subject in their recent publications. You may be able to find some information online. Happy hunting!

Online Advertising Yahoo

Are there any online advertising sites where i can put up a few dollars for ads to my small blog?

I don’t know much about online advertising, but can I go somewhere and put up maybe $50-$100 and gets some online ads put up somewhere for my blog?

Definitely! The main ones are Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing, and MSN also has pay per click programs.

On each one of them, you generally get about $50 free just for signing up! The key is to choose long key words that very few people are bidding on, and set your daily budget low. That way you are only getting the people that are very interested in your product.

Once you get them to your blog, now what? Since you have someone that is interested in what you are saying, you should create a product that solves a problem they are having. Inform them about the topic, and then offer them something that can help them.

Good luck!

Which cellphone would you recommend SAMSUNG S2 or iPhone 4 to use in India?

I was all ready to buy an iPhone 4 in coming September but someone said that in India Samsung S2 would definitely be better as transfer through bluetooth and some other general facilities which are desired in a cellphone to be used in India are absent in iPhones. So please give me your opinion on in and give me the links which could help me deciding what to buy over each aspect.
I’ll be so thankful and grateful for your answers.
Thanking you

galaxy s2 over iphone4
has more free apps
turn-by-turn GPS
better battery life (proven)
better and larger screen
no need to connect to computer to sync
here is a big one, add a sd card
better calls
better camera
more customizable
more powerful hardware
flash support, watch ALL the online videos
worlds thinnest Smartphone at 8.49mm

apps; the android market has really improved in quality and quantity over the past few years, and is now up to par with apples app store, and is rumored to actually surpassed it later this year. another plus for the android market is that its open source and the majority of the apps are free. And do things are even only barely available on a jail broken iphone
another great thing about android as that if you dont like something (keyboard, homescreen, etc.) it can easily be swapped without jail-breaking, unlike the iphones one-size-fits-all approach.

both phone offer equal security, though they have different means of doing it.
iphone, verifies all the apps so you can’t get a virus through an app, but the rest of the phone is semi-vulnerable.
Android does not check the apps, but the apps are run in a isolated way, as to not affect the system in event of a virus.
so both phones are equally prone to viruses (and if this a big deal for you, android has a antivirus app, which iphone does not)

also don’t listen iphone lovers that say Samsung bad at making electronics. what apple fans don’t realize is that Samsung produces the screen, processor and memory for apple products so Samsung clearly has the advantage here.
The iphone is pretty, but not durable, drop it once- it breaks, all that glass around it? That was honestly a mistake. Android manufactures clearly saw that, and decided to do with something a little more durable.

Also apple never invents anything, all they do is steal old technology, give it a fresh coat of paint and mass advertise it as “magical” and “innovating”, thus fooling the mass of the population into believing that apple offers cutting edge technology, that in fact has been around for quite a few years.

Also if you’ve seen apples 2011 presentation, they blatantly copied over five “new” features that were previously on android

1. Notification bar
2. Twitter integration
3. No need to connect to PC to sync
4. Launch apps from lock screen
5. Tabbed browsing

According to Steve jobs, these “revolutionary” new technologies that android users had since 2007 will be available on IOS5. It would not surprise me to see some more android features from 2008 on IOS6, and the sad part is that in a few months apple lovers will really think that apple invented those features and call android the copycat…again.
