Online Advertising That Gets Results

How do I follow up on my job applications?

In the past month or so I’ve submitted about 15 job applications to mainstream retail and restaurant/fast food chains. All of them were unsolicited, as large corporate restaurants and stores usually don’t have to advertise job openings because they already have so many applicants.
Most of them had an online application process.

I haven’t heard back from anyone yet for an interview.
I’m wondering who I should contact in order to ask about the status of my application, but also what should I say if I do call them?
My last employer pretty much hired me on the spot, and I’m not sure how to go about begging for a job in a way that will get me the results I want.

I write letters. Just short ones–like 1/2 a page. it’s gotten me 2 interviews so far. just list things about you and why you think you’d be good at the job. it makes the interview a little easier. i think it’s better than calling them, too, because with a letter, they read it whenever they have time, rather than dropping what they are doing to answer the phone.
but in a letter, don’t try to sound too formal and uptight. just be yourself so they can see the real you. you can bullshit in the interview! 🙂
